For 35 years the Citizens Environment Alliance has been working towards just that, an alliance between citizens and the environment. Only a balanced partnership between people and the environment in which we live can we hope to experience a healthy future for all.
This balance is no more apparent than right now. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, our environment has become deadly. We cannot safely leave our homes without precautions due to the immediate health risk. And even as we experience decreased emissions due to a near global stay-at-home order, jurisdictions including Ontario and the United States have suspended environmental rights and regulatory enforcement. Our personal health is at risk and our environment is under attack. Right now.
Many people in our community are suffering job losses and decreased income due to the virus. As a local charity we are also experiencing losses due to Covid-19. For many years, the CEA has relied on bingo fundraising to pay our rent and utility bills. This has allowed us to use all other funds toward our charity mandate. Social distancing measures have shut down this avenue of fundraising since March, and they will take many months to recover once restrictions are lifted. We do not expect to raise sufficient funds during this year to cover our rent and utility bills.
We’re asking for your help. In order to continue our work we need to fill gaps in our funding. With the help of smallchangefund.ca we hope to raise $10,000 by the end of 2020 to make up for this year’s lost bingo fundraising dollars.
We’re all struggling through this pandemic together. We know it’s not easy. If you find yourself in a position to help us financially, we greatly appreciate whatever you can give.
Please help us keep the lights on so we can continue our fight for balance between citizens and the environment, our future is riding on it.
