Canada’s reputation as a nation of “hewers of wood and drawers of water” is at least half correct, historically. Forestry has always been one of the biggest industries in the country.

As a result, logging has resulted in  devastating losses. For example, Vancouver Island has lost 30 per cent of its original forests over the past 25 years, and 180 million acres of boreal forest have been lost, largely due to forestry, hydropower, mining industries and oil and gas extraction.

Contribute what you can today to support our award-winning journalism to tell the stories of Canada’s forests. Your donation will help us get beyond the headlines to identify solutions to Canada’s forestry woes.

Catastrophic beetle outbreaks and wildfires mean Canada’s forests have never been more at risk than they are now. Your donation will help us take a deep dive into the crisis in our forests and publish a series of investigative articles illuminating the problems — and the solutions — in a way you won’t find anywhere else.

Thank you!
